दर्द का अर्थ समझे

On July 30, 2012, in Blog, Faith and belief, Guest Post, irregular, Philosophy, Serious, by Amiya

Singapore Gardens by the Bay

On July 23, 2012, in Architecture, Gallery, HDR, Low Light, People and Places, by Amiya

The newly constructed Gardens by the bay are amazing. The construction is aimed to raise the quality of life by enhancing greenery and flora in the city. Along with the gardens there are two conservatories – a flower dome and a cloud forest. The place is worth visiting and can be easily reached from Bayfront MRT. Some of the wide angle shots are panoramas.

Mamata Di – You Don’t Say?

On May 12, 2012, in Blog, Comics, Humor, irregular, by Amiya

Mamata Banerjee AKA DiDi (she does have some characteristics of DiDI from Dexter’s Lab) recently warns Facebook and Twitter – suggesting she is “not a cartoon”. Just a while ago she arrested a Professor from Jadavpur University for drawing a cartoon of her. When asked she said it is always so difficult to catch criminals and rapist so we are compensating by going after University professors and people who “draw me”.

PhD Nerds: Carbon described in one word

On April 27, 2012, in Comics, Humor, PhD nerds, by Amiya

Without doubt carbon is the most important element. Perhaps it’s chemistry is richer than the chemistry of all other elements combined. You remove this single element and life would seize to exist. At one end it looks like ugly charcoal and on the other end it is the most beautiful thing in the world in the form of diamond. Even in it’s raw form it shows such rich properties – from buckminsterfullerenes, carbon nano tubes to graphene transistors. It’s impact on technology is immense. So how do you describe something this diverse and rich in one single word? Here is the answer…

Tainted reality – The incompleteness of our perceived world

On April 17, 2012, in Blog, Neuroscience, Philosophy, Research, Serious, by Amiya

Over time one thing I learned the hard way is that people can have radically different views. This is true even for the most objective of things as well as most rational people. If at the most basic level, things like color, smell and taste can have very different subjective experience between people, then it is not hard to imagine why that same phenomena cannot extend to more complex circumstances like food, art, music, beliefs, ideas and creativity.

Langkawi – Places to visit

On April 13, 2012, in Blog, Gallery, Nature, People and Places, Photography, Travel, by Amiya

The previous weekend was a long one, so we (me and my flatmates) planned a trip to Kedah Langkawi located in the Andaman sea some 30 Km from the coast of Malaysia. Best way to reach there is by air – but that is if you can afford the tickets. Langkawi being a prime destination for honeymoon couples is a comparatively (compared to other parts of Malaysia) costly place.

Cop Logic

On March 16, 2012, in Blog, Comics, Serious, Society, by Amiya

Delhi has been known for quite some time as the rape capital of India. The situation in nearby areas including Gurgaon and Noida is no better. While the crime rates are on an incline the attitude of the police as well as the Government is appalling. Simply put the security of women is not really their problem. So if you don’t want to be raped do not get out after 8 pm, really simple! I find it hard to believe how these people can say that with a straight face. These cities including the capital projects a dim and saddening picture to the world. I feel bad when foreigners visiting Delhi say India is an unsafe country and probably think Indians have no respect for women. I don’t know what has to be done to improve the situation but the attitude of police and the Government is only detrimental to an already bad situation.
