7 days in Tokyo and Kyoto

On April 24, 2016, in Blog, Guest Post, People and Places, Travel, by Amiya

I went for a 7-day trip to Japan in the late summer month of June. While I did miss the cherry blossom season, which mostly runs from April to March, I did get a round trip ticket from Singapore to Japan for only S$425 from Malaysian Airways.

The views were absolutely breathtaking despite it not being the best time for cherry blossoms.

While travelling there was so many things flashing in mind about japan which I used to hear from my mother and grandmother and read from books. It met all the expectations of mine. People in japan are extremely gentle and helping. Never hesitant to help a stranger.

Mt. Bromo – Kawah Ijen Tour

On November 11, 2012, in Blog, Gallery, People and Places, Travel, by Amiya

Indonesia is a wonderful place to visit. Me and my buddies went for a long weekend trip to Kawah Ijen and Mt. Bromo. Being a bunch of young kids we prefer to plan our trips on our own rather than taking package tours. While it sure does require more planning it gives freedom to plan the trip to our need and satisfaction. To help my fellow friends and travelers I’m sharing some tips and markers towards planning your own trip. Also I have shared some amazing pictures that I took while on the trip. The landscapes are absolutely breathtaking and it is a must place to see for all nature lovers.

Singapore Gardens by the Bay

On July 23, 2012, in Architecture, Gallery, HDR, Low Light, People and Places, by Amiya

The newly constructed Gardens by the bay are amazing. The construction is aimed to raise the quality of life by enhancing greenery and flora in the city. Along with the gardens there are two conservatories – a flower dome and a cloud forest. The place is worth visiting and can be easily reached from Bayfront MRT. Some of the wide angle shots are panoramas.

Langkawi – Places to visit

On April 13, 2012, in Blog, Gallery, Nature, People and Places, Photography, Travel, by Amiya

The previous weekend was a long one, so we (me and my flatmates) planned a trip to Kedah Langkawi located in the Andaman sea some 30 Km from the coast of Malaysia. Best way to reach there is by air – but that is if you can afford the tickets. Langkawi being a prime destination for honeymoon couples is a comparatively (compared to other parts of Malaysia) costly place.

Sembawang Park, Singapore

On January 29, 2012, in Gallery, Nature, People and Places, by Amiya

I normally go to the city center for photo shoots, but this time I wanted to see something new. So I headed towards Sembawang MRT. Sembawang park which is 10 minutes from the MRT (via bus 882) is relatively small and peaceful park with a small beach. It is on the north overlooking Malaysia ( you can actually swim across if you can survive the coast guards 😛 ). I saw a good number of people camping around. In my opinion it has its own distinctiveness, it is much better compared to the crowded east or west coast park. Moreover the close-by areas have a downtown look to them, which has its own charm.

Mahabaleshwar, panchgani road trip

On January 19, 2012, in Blog, Gallery, Nature, People and Places, Travel, by Amiya

Back home in India, took a short trip to Mahabaleshwar, some 250 Kms from Mumbai. It has some wonderful resorts and breathtaking landscape. Most of the points are close to each other. The points looking over Krishna river are magnificent. There is a small lake (Venna lake) as well and some spots are good for trekking as well. Close to Mahabaleshwar is Panchgani and Pratapgad fort which are a must watch.

Kuala Lumpur – Genting – Batu Caves; Malaysia Road Trip

On October 27, 2011, in Blog, Gallery, People and Places, Travel, by Amiya

I just came back from a weekend road trip to Malaysia. Apart from some really frustrating moments, thanks to the malfunctioning GPS and one way roads of KL, the trip was a success. We started on Friday evening at around 5 PM from Singapore, took a bus towards Johar Bahru from Kranji MRT (Red line); The rush at Singapore immigration was unbelievable. It took us at-least half an hour just to figure out where the queue for the bus started!! So if you too plan to head for Malaysia on a weekend you better take a cab which costs 55S$ flat. We already rented a car which was ready at Kotaraya Bas Terminal. But to our horror the bloody GPS was missing. The rental company forgot to keep it inside the car and their shop was closed! We had to wait till 11 PM!! In retrospect we did enjoy the time having some tasty and damn cheap food from Anna’s restaurant close to the rental.

Who let the cats out?

On September 14, 2011, in Blog, Entertainment, Gallery, irregular, Nature, People and Places, by Amiya

In the recent trip to Tioman Islands in Malaysia we were bombarded with an army of lazy, hungry and depressed cats. Though I love cats and generally prefer them to dogs, these were really irritating and really pissed us off time and again. One time when we were having dinner a very pregnant cat just jumped around the table and made it impossible to eat. We didn’t have the guts to kick her; the last thing we wanted is a cat delivering half a dozen babies on our dinner table!! Finally when the waiter came to shoo it off it just dropped flat on floor signalling very clearly that she was in no mood to leave without food. To keep the memories alive here are a few shots of those inglorious bastards.
