Tainted reality – The incompleteness of our perceived world

On April 17, 2012, in Blog, Neuroscience, Philosophy, Research, Serious, by Amiya

Over time one thing I learned the hard way is that people can have radically different views. This is true even for the most objective of things as well as most rational people. If at the most basic level, things like color, smell and taste can have very different subjective experience between people, then it is not hard to imagine why that same phenomena cannot extend to more complex circumstances like food, art, music, beliefs, ideas and creativity.

Cop Logic

Delhi has been known for quite some time as the rape capital of India. The situation in nearby areas including Gurgaon and Noida is no better. While the crime rates are on an incline the attitude of the police as well as the Government is appalling. Simply put the security of women is not really their problem. So if you don’t want to be raped do not get out after 8 pm, really simple! I find it hard to believe how these people can say that with a straight face. These cities including the capital projects a dim and saddening picture to the world. I feel bad when foreigners visiting Delhi say India is an unsafe country and probably think Indians have no respect for women. I don’t know what has to be done to improve the situation but the attitude of police and the Government is only detrimental to an already bad situation.

Poverty – an Economic Perspective

On January 24, 2011, in Blog, irregular, Serious, Society, by Amiya

Money is a mysterious thing. It is the fuel on which everything runs. At times it is everything, at times its nothing. It is what creates huge dams, roads, railways and entire countries and it is what annihilates an entire civilization. Money is magical and it is what everyone desires and it is what is the answer to everything – this is the view most people hold. At-least most people hold the view that money is the solution to most of our economic problems, poverty being the main one.

Arundhati Roy and Rakhi Sawant – two sides of the same coin

On October 28, 2010, in Blog, Entertainment, Serious, by Amiya

Every time Arundhati Roy’s name come up in news I feel disgusted exactly like the times when Rakhi Sawant’s name comes up. Given my poor writing skills I thought the best way to express myself will be through a picture. Rakhi Sawant and Arundhati Roy are basically the same person. Both are hungry for attention – while one uses […]

A country of over a billion people; India – one of the fastest growing economy in the world with an extremely large young population which is arguably the most valuable resource for the country’s future. Solar Powered Base Stations – Future of Communication in India

On May 29, 2010, in Blog, Energy, Photovoltaics, Research, Serious, Technology, by Amiya

We live in exponential times and what animates it is information and communication. Today economy runs not on money but on bits and bytes gushing through the internet backbone. Not long back cellphones were a rare thing. The ability to communicate from anywhere, anytime was reserved for the super rich. But then something changed. Government became liberalized, […]

Fate and destiny

On May 20, 2010, in Faith and belief, Philosophy, Serious, by Amiya

D: It is written. That is how the critically acclaimed British film “Slumdog Millionaire” ended. You are free to show anything you want in a movie but when it comes to real life, destiny and fate is something too difficult for me to digest. There are a billion people clinging on to the ideology; some to veil […]
