Your Life in 3 photos – Canon snap your life contest

On July 4, 2011, in Abstract, Black and White, Gallery, People and Places, by Amiya

The Canon snap your life contest was on. The task was to capture your life in three photos along with a slogan and two winners stand the chance to win EOS 1100D DSLR. I thought of participating mainly because many of the entries were off-topic and I though I have some chance of making it through. You may check out the entries here: The first two pics were not that difficult, though the last one took good deal of time and experimentation. Its a super long shot taken in completely dark background with occasional flashes of light to expose the subject. To be clear it is a single shot and no editing has been done.

Pretty Women – please pose for the camera

On July 4, 2011, in Abstract, Architecture, Gallery, People and Places, by Amiya

I had a pretty packed weekend this time…Two Barbecue parties, movie and lots a sleeping as well. Took some photos while roaming around and caught this lovely snap of a mother asking her lovely daughter to pose for the camera. You can see the sparkle in the face of the sweet girl as she smiles for the camera. One clear advantage of having a 300mm is that it allows you to be so far from the subject that the presence of the observer (aka photographer) never intrudes into the expressions of the subject. I also experimented with HDR and some blurs. Feedback and likes appreciated as always…

BTW: Delhi Belly is awesome…a must watch for every movie buff.

Ring of Fire

On December 16, 2010, in Abstract, Gallery, by Amiya

This photo was clicked during Kshitij 09 on my old canon point and shoot. The naturally low light resulted in a slow shutter and created a very good effect. [exif=”IMG_0265-1-web.jpg”]

The beauty of the night

On November 20, 2010, in Abstract, Gallery, Nature, by Amiya

This is my first attempt at night photography. Boy I loved it. I was literally amazed at what the camera can capture. What seemed to be total darkness with almost nothing visible to the naked eye turned out to be a beautiful landscape with haze floating over the ground. I do not have a tripod […]

Macro Photography with a wide lens!

On October 27, 2010, in Abstract, Gallery, by Amiya

For those who have studied optics it may not come as a surprise that a wide angle lens reversed is actually a macro lens. To put that into work I removed my 18-55 kit lens and placed it backwards to take this click. Keep in mind that the depth of field will be incredibly shallow […]

Rusted Dreams

On October 20, 2010, in Abstract, Black and White, Gallery, by Amiya

This shot was taken just near my hostel. The picture didn’t look so rusted until I desaturated it. I took it in a way that the fencing looks like a ‘Y’ as in yes to give a subtle feeling of hope and perseverance. It may not be apparent that the lighting was quite low and […]

One of my first clicks with my new camera. It turned out quite well considering the slow shutter speed of 1/2 sec for a hand held shot. I did try faster shutter with the high ISO of 1600 and it came out well but then this shot is quite sharp and has hardly any noticeable noise. The […]
