The beauty of the night

On November 20, 2010, in Abstract, Gallery, Nature, by Amiya
This is my first attempt at night photography. Boy I loved it. I was literally amazed at what the camera can capture. What seemed to be total darkness with almost nothing visible to the naked eye turned out to be a beautiful landscape with haze floating over the ground. I do not have a tripod so have to search for a very stable surface on which to keep the camera and click. Some of the shots are having really long exposures and given that I had my hand on the camera the whole time the picture turned out quite sharp. I thought the live view is useless; I was wrong it is a Saviour in low light. When you can't see anything through your viewfinder all you need to do is turn on live view zoom by 10X and point toward something (even just a small spot of light) and adjust your focus, it is unbelievably sharp. All shots are taken around midnight 🙂

Believe me absolutely nothing was visible to the naked eye!

The sodium lamp under the trees gave an illusion of the whole place being under fire. The click is intentionally over-exposed.

Again that's a sodium street lamp behind the tree. The fog is just right for the effect. Turned it to B&W as it gave a very good effect.
